September 2007
Dugout dances, Hi five dances…All this for nothing?
The list can go on and on for miles but in my mind, The Mets should have maybe focused on batting practice and defensive drills and not practice dance moves and new hi five celebrations after they hit home runs. Its all of the little things that added up, Not just todays miserable 8-1 loss the last place Marlins, It was a ton of things just compiled up into one horrible month. I will get into todays game a little later but if you look at the past month or so, We can start off with the culprit in my mind who contributed to some of the Mets losses in Sept. Jose Reyes. Jose, ah what can i say about you? I love you as a player, your energy is second to none but in September the only thing you did good was fly out and not effectively get on base and not running out ground balls and also at times playing the defense that we all know jose never plays, Was he throwing games? Was he mad about all the MVP talk that David Wright took from him during the season? Who knows but i know one thing, I was one of the people in the stands booing him like crazy and it will continue until he matures and shows me that he can be one of the leaders on this team . I didnt mind the celebrations until this past weekend, Its like he took more time dancing in the dugout than focusing and trying to do the little things to win. I am very angry at Reyes’s play over the past month.
Now i will get to reason number two why the mets lost, Willie Randolphs managerial skills throughout the past month. Willie, I never in my life thought you were a great fit for the mets and frankly now, I dont even more. So what he brought the team back to its winning ways over the past, He never blistered me with great moves out of the dugout and if you look at the roster over the past 3 seasons, It was sometimes filled with greatness and if you look at other managers around the league who have to feed with much less than Willie has at his disposal, They do a much better job managing the game. I dont blame willie much for some things but i do blame him for the past month and every press conference quoted saying, " We are still in first place, So i dont know what to say". Yeah Willie, we were in first place for those days and given a 7 game lead with 17 left, we should have still been there popping champagne corks like the phillies are doing now but instead im here left laughing about what decisions the Mets will have to make next season and how they can try to fix this mess. Getting back to what Willie said, How can you say that we are sitll in first place every **** day in and out. We lost a ton of games to 2 teams who were in last place for most of the season and it was just like he gave the team a sense of its okay that we are losing but we are always going to be in first place. NO WILLIE, WE LOST, YOU BLEW IT. I wish one of the players would stand up since the chemistry is obviously out of whack the past few weeks and say that the team needed a jumpstart and willie did not once throw at a batter or once get thrown out of a game. I just wish the Mets still had BOBBY VALENTINE, He was my fav mets manager of all time and looking back to the days with Bobby, the days which he walked around and came back in wearing a fake mustache after being ejected just makes me wish we still had him around to coach this team, A team with much better players assembled and a chance at winning again.
My third reason will go to.. drumroll please, the mets bullpen. Their bullpen has been horrid. Plain and simple, overused isnt even the word i can use anymore. The staring pitching is part of the problem in why the bullpen was overused and Willie in my mind also was another reason in why the bullpen was overused. He did not know how to manage a game and too many times, Pitchers were taken out after 1 pitch to a batter or even a 1 batter situational appearence. I dont get why too many times the manager never gets blamed for mistakes but this one obviously was Willies and mainly the lack of Starting Pitching that led to the demise of the bullpen and their inflated ERA in September.
David Wright had a tremendous season and would have been voted MVP if the Mets didnt collapse and the Phils didnt make it. Now the honor will most likely go to Jimmy Rollins or Matt Holliday depending on the outcome of the Rockies-Pads game tomorrow. Davids season ended abruptly today and i just wish he could have carried them on his back like he did all season long. He has a horrible April but was amazing from May 1- Sept 30th. I find it hard to believe that with all of the disappoint, We can even find something positive about this team. David was that positive note and he will mostl ikely try to improve on his impressive season next season. Tonight after the game, David did not seem very happy and i have never seen David more visablly upset than after Fridays game and after todays game. He was the one with all or most of the heart on this team. He was the one who pushed this team to succeed on most nights in the ballpark. All i know is that after batting 324 with 30 home runs and a 107 rbis, He is the cornerstone of this team and not Jose Reyes as many people who emailed me tryed explaining why. Wright every game came to the park, took extra bp, signed autographs and also took excessive fielding. Reyes on the otherhand was clowining around in the dugout, laughing with other competition or just not being focused. I dont care if they won if he joked around but as for being at the game, Reyes was not out early in BP and also did not take extra practice. I just dont blame JOse as i still think hes an amazing player, He needs to mature more as was the case with David after last playoffs in which he didnt do so good. In my mind, after Wright was getting all of the MVP attention, Reyes did not like that and started pressing to try to get more Jose chants at Shea.
The players that need to be gone in my book are…Paul Loduca- Paul was one of my favirote mets over the seasons he was here but he just doesnt seem to have it anymore with hitting. He has wore down in the second half and also been banged up more often than not. I think the Mets should save the money and platoon Castro with whoever the backup may be. Im just counting down the years until Francisco Pena is the catcher at Citi Field but which is still years away since he is only 17 years old now.
Second player in which should be gone is…Tom Glavine. Tom Glavine is too old in my book and showed his wear and tear in his last two starts of the season for the mets. I hope he takes his player option and goes to Atlanta where we can beat him around for all of the miserable feelings the Mets fans are going through tonight and for the next 6 months or so. Glavine had a decent time with the mets since he came over from ATL but as i remember the paper saying back then, The Mets dont need Tom Glavine, The Mets need divine intervention on the post. They didnt need him then and i still dont think they need him now, More than ever after the beat down he was given today by a Marlins team who was in last place all season or most of it. I really dislike Tom Glavine and i dislike the way he let us all down today.
Third player gone….Shawn Green. I dont have much to say about Shawn Green but all i know is that last season in game 7, He had a chance to give the Mets a lead in the bottom of the 6th and flyed out to right. I still am angry about that and the one who bookened that inning , Jose Valentine should not be on the team next season as well. Green was a player who the mets maybe could have relied on 8 years ago but not now. they need to go in a different direction in Right Field and if they dont trade Milledge, Milledge should be the guy there with Endy backing him up along with Gomez as the other back up OF.
Fourth player gone on this roster would have to go to….Delgado. Delgado did not fare well in this season with the Mets. I wish they could somehow trade him and get a good first base men in a trade. Delgado is in the decline of his career and after suffering yet another hand injury, Will only get worse at this point. I loved Delgado for the longest time with his tenure with the Mets but as of now, He just does not seem to be locked in or for that matter all season minus a few at bats. a 256 avg with 24 hr’s his season was very disappointing.
Now as of the 4, I can go for another 14 players in who i want gone but most of them on under contract. Delgado is the only ommision from that group who is still under contract but i can only hope they get rid of him or maybe keep him and hopefully have him hit like he used to. But judging from decline years, he is headed for yet another one and i hope i am wrong. Fact is theyre is plenty of mets i want to see gone from this team but it will never happen. What the Mets gm Mr Minaya can do is look to improve this team and hopefully get back a few healthy bullpen parts ( Sanchez and Padilla) and fix this team to get them back into title consideration.
My next point is that Shea stadium has one more year left in existence and i can only hope that next year has a ton more thrills than this season has had. It was a rough season and based on the one remaining season at the greatest ballpark on earth, I just wish we can make some noise and close out the stadium with a bang, Hopefully a world series ring that i was praying for this season. You know, It sort of still feels like im in a dream world right now as i still dont like to believe that the Mets are not in the playoffs and have a big E next to their name in the standings which stands for Eliminated. This season had some moments but more bad than good in my book and this last month has been forever etched in my memory and i know in 40 years, I will be telling my grandkids about the season that was in 2007 and what could have been with this group of players. And as the slogan read your season has come all over Shea, It seems like it was gone Just like that.
DIG DOWN, DIG DOWN DEEP…
Alright Mets, Give me one more reason not to jump off a bridge in the next 3 days. This has been the worst month of my baseball life as noted before in numerous posts. Everything was fine and okay with being a Mets fan until the last month, As most of the "Mets" Fans as i like to call them are no where to be found. Is this what they call bandwagoners? Absolutely yes, The real met fan can boo their team when disappointed but the real met fan should wear their colors even when they lose and never downgrade their chances of winning to none. Over the past few days, I have been in contact with mets fans who say they stink and will never go anywhere in the playoffs but as happened last season with the Cardinals who everyone wrote off can happen with the Mets if they make the playoffs. The Mets fans need to be with their team, through thick and think as this has come down to 3 games for their playoff hopes and not having us fans to suffer through a long winter with plenty doubts and plenty questions about what could have been! My aspirations for the begining of the season was World Series or bust! Now i just pray they make the playoffs. Back to the Bandwagoners, I find it funny not to see many mets jerseys worn around NY or even talking baseball while wearing my jersey. Its like everyone scrapes the decals off and throws the shirts in the attic but in my mind, That should never happen. Even when the mets stunk up most of the 90′s, I still had a jersey on and watched my team regardless of the abuse i take from fans across baseball. Its just that you can beat a dead horse but the fans need to be behind them totally and be at the game, Not just when your team wins, Come back and be wow im a mets fan and they are the best. Please fans come out this weekend and show your support, If you cant afford tickets, put a flag out, You cant buy a flag? Get 2 eggs and paint them blue, orange and lay them outside and show your support.
Lets go Mets and once again you gotta believe!
Why? Why? Why?
Someone pinch me because i dont know if im still in a dream or is this reality. I am praying one day ill get up and the Mets will still be 7 games ahead and cruising towards another NL East title for the second straight season. I really am in need of a mets victory because if they dont win the NL East or make the wild card, I will not be happy along with the other crazed Mets fans in the world. This has been the utter worst month of my baseball years and if it ends as we all think, Then it will cap the worst season as a mets fan. I dont care about all of the losing seasons in the 90′s now, I care about this season and our thoughts coming into it about a World Series run as last years season ended on such a bad note. When you look at the way these weeks are ending, I feel like im in a downward spiral and this team usually takes up all my time watching and day dreaming to the day when the Mets finally win a world series, One in which i can fully participate in.
As the years went on, I was able to fully establish myself as a crazy Mets fan, Watching all the games, Going to most and owning every jersey (One for each day of the week and even more) but looking at the way this season has gone down the tubes in the past month, I feel like they are dragging me with them. Each day im walking around, my head is slumped and each Yankee fan i see abuses me for hours and it hurts deep down inside but i usually dont let them see it. Even when im doing my clinical rotations at the hospital, I am analyzing patients and taking vital signs and i feel as if it should be the other way around as my vitals are the ones that are dropping and causing me to almost faint after watching this team on a daily basis. I am needed of a vacation and tomorrow i will be at the game supporting my team. After the game win or lose, Im travleing to my house in Pennsylvania and if the mets win or lose, I will not know. I wont turn on the television and wont worry about who won or lost. Even though ill most likely find out somehow, I will still be with this team regardless of the outcome, I am just hurt at the way they are playing at the end of it all. Please Mets, Give me one more comeback and win the NL East again. One more time. Thats all. One more series left. Win all 3 and the Phils need to lose 1 game and we win the NL East.
And for one more picture with my thoughts for tonights loss against the Cards. Look into the sky David for devine intervention for the team Please!
What is going on? Why is this dream never ending?
Ah, the sweet recolection of my thoughts from a few months back. Does anyone remember the post when i said, " Wow, Is this what it is like to be a Nationals fan?". Well now that i am thinking back to the past, I am in a sorrow to eat my words. Maybe it is like, "Is this whats its like to have a miserable bullpen and shotty defense at best?. I hope that this rollercoaster into **** ends soon because my blood pressure and Brain cant take it. I feel like someone is drilling a screwdriver into my eyes while watching these debacles on a daily basis. This has gone from, WOW MY TEAM IS THE BEST IN THE NL, TO…Wow this bullpen really does work magic. I remember when i made fun of Joba Chamberlain but as of right now, I would take any yankee over any met in the bullpen minus Kyle Farnsworth. **** the way the Mets bullpen is pitching (Albeit overworked due to the lack of pitching into the late innings of the game)i would even take him. If we can think about the lead disappearing before my eyes and getting almost swept at home against the Nats. Yes i said it, The Nationals. This team always makes my heart work extra, Every year for the past 15 years of my life. Since i was 3 years old, I went to Shea with my family and even more now as im older, And this year was worse than other years in my mind even though the Mets will still most likely make the playoffs. See, in the dark ages 1991-1998, The Mets were almost the laughing stock of the league. Anthony Young, Dave Mlicki, Paul Byrd, Pete Harnisch,Rico Brogna, Bobby Bonilla, Butch Huskey, Vince COLEMAN. The list can go on and on about the mishaps of the mets teams of the 90′s. But this is a different year and timeframe. We are the city who has the money and even if it costs alot Omar, You could have gotten a reliever or Maybe directed Willie not to trade Brian Bannister away ( Even with the abundance of pitching as we have said in the middle of the year). See with this team, the Mets staff has never been used like this before ( Maine never pitched a full season, Ollie has but not on a consistent basis, Rookies getting called up and pitching decent. I mean its just a sad time to be a mets fan and even as the hated Cardinals come rolling into town tomorrow, I still think of what was last year and being in my seat at Shea during game 7 and crying and remember telling some child next to me after he was crying and asked his dad, Dad, When are we going to win next?> DAD REPLIES, NEXT YEAR SON, NEXT YEAR. I then chimed in and said, " Dont worry kid, Ive been saying that since i was 5 and it isnt happening. Thats the kind of stuff im talking about with us Mets fans. We are long suffering and need to start making some noise. The names on paper look tantalizing but it just isnt transfered to the field the past month. The Mets need to win soon or else i will have a heartattack, So please people keep the faith as i have even though my hair is slowly falling out of my head.
Now the picture that will emphasize David using my thoughts exactly.
MVP, MVP!!!
Hello to all Wrightoholics out there, I know its been quite a while since my last post and i apologize for that. I will promise to start posting again as i know the season is coming to a close. Since the past post, The Mets bullpen took a hiatus and they have been blowing leads like it was the Mike Stanton, Armando Benitez days. Hopefully they can get this corrected in the next week and pitch lights out come playoff time because we all know once playoff time comes, Regardless of the regular season record, Is meaningless. Every team starts off 0-0 and the winner has to win 11 games total to win the Championship. The Mets can hopefully get to that number in the playoffs which hopefully David can break out of his last playoff spell which pitted him batting under 230 which is very un David like. I will start off with David Wright first.
Seems like someone deserves some hardware this season. Look at the guys number post april! Are you kidding me? Almost batting 330, 30 homers, 36 steals, 105 rbis and not to mention most importantly helping the mets get to this hopeful second straight NL East title. THe mets have had a rash of injuries this season and look who has been there every game hitting day in and day out, David Wright. Yes, Jose Reyes played every game but his level of play has deterioated from game 82 this season on. David was the one when the mets had injuries all season long to every player on the team except for David Wright and Reyes. Beltran,Delgado,Green,Milledge,Alou,Chavez,Loduca,Castro,Gotay, Castillo, Valentin, Gomez and not to mention a rash of injuries to the Starters and relievers. I dont want to hear anyone tell me about injuries because the mets have had only 2 players play in almost every game this season. So many key parts have been out along the way and the only glue that held this team together was David Wright and some clutch pitching performances. Now im not saying anything about the pitching staff but look how David Wright impacts games on a daily basis (Other than his sometimes erratic fielding), He hits to all fields and 70 percent of the time makes a productive out either moving the runner off, moving him in on a sac fly or just taking pitches to allow Reyes to steal a base. On defense, he knows what base to throw to at all times and even though he makes errors, Hes 24 years old and will only get better defensively as time goes on. When the mets need a big hit (Like yesterday), David is mostly there. Hopefully he can progress enough this postseason to forget about last seasons dreadful October. He deserves the MVP award since his team has had so many injuries and he was there to back this team up not only as a player on the field but a leader off of it and you cant say that about most players in this league. He sticks up for his team when they are down, Keeps them lose in the dugout and most importantly wills them to win. I know a few other NL Players have had tremendously good years but you look at it this way. Prince Fielder (Does he deserve MVP?) Absolutely, Will he get it? No, unless the Brew crew pulls off a miraculous finish to stun the Cubs. Jimmy Rollins (Does he deserve it? ) Yes, but once again unless the Phils make it, He wont get it, Not to mention the other players on the Phils who will take votes away from Rollins. Matt Holliday (Does he deserve it?) Absolutely. His numbers are beyond ridiculous this season and he deserves some votes due to the pitching he faces on a daily basis in the NL West and the way he pulled this team from nothing last season to almost making the playoffs. If the Rocks make the playoffs, Holliday will win the MVP Award based on his stats. Pujols ? No, Cards are done. So basically there you have it. I know David deserves to win this MVP. He works hard on the field and rarely misses any action and 99 percent of the time has a impact on the outcome wheather it be Defense or Offense. Give the guy his **** due and give us Mets fans our due and finally give the Mets a MVP FOR ONCE! We deserve it. Our pitching rich franchise needs a MVP before we leave SHEA. PLEASE VOTERS, GIVE THE MVP TO DAVID WRIGHT SO I CAN ALSO WIN MY PROP BET! Oh did i say that out loud? Well i dont bet nor i do condone gambling, Unless you put 20,000 on the Mets to win the world series and split the winnings with me.
Now onto the past 3 weeks at hand. The Mets bullpen was really getting to me over the past few weeks. I shaved my head to try and reverse this horrid ways but nothing can do it. I even spoke to my bobblehead guys and they all convinced me that the Mets would break out of it and not to worry about driving my car off a bridge if they blew this lead. I know it has only been a few weeks sicne the bullpen and SP’s have faltered but you have to realize something. Willie Overuses this bullpen. I know he has no other options but sometimes you need to go with worst case scenario (I.E Schoenwiess) to get the job done. You ever hear the expression, You cant beat a dead horse or something like that? Well Willie is doing that exactly by going back to the same reliever day in and day out regardless of their performance the night before. They need rest and i know each game is big for the mets but yesterday was a key example of why you need to shake things up once in a while. If you cant get a out from Feliciano, Go to Joe Smith. Cant get a out from him? Go to Schoweinweiss, (Maybe one year ill spell his name right). Cant get a out from him? Set up a Jugs ball throwing machine out side the picnic area and sign the kids up right away.If you really need to know why the Mets are up 2 and a half games, Just look no further. They are a good team and can withstand the adversity that comes with being the division leader for almost the whole season. I have faith in them that they will make it far in the playoffs. Even though 40 percent of Mets fans are bandwagoners, I still understand and hope that most of them will stay with this team through the thick and the thin. I found something quite funny and disturbing at the same time. I know a person who constantly buys decals off of ebay and then takes them off his car every time the Mets go in a downward spiral and puts them on when they win. I ask him why and his response? They stink sometimes and i cant take the abuse. I laugh and say when you were younger, Did you own a sled ? He says no. I said what about a bandwagon you *****? He said no. I told him to get his 26 time world champion yankee jacket out of the closet and massage it because on this side of town, We dont accept bandwagoner fans. So that goes for all of you fans out there, If your a real Mets fan, Show it through everything. I wear my Mets jerseys in The winter without and sweatshirt underneath. Now if thats a smart thing to do? Based on Hypothermia. I dont think so. But i do it anyway because i live and die with this team and just once before i go, I need to feel what its like to win a title and im going to be at whatever stadium that its happening at. Please mets grant me that one wish.
Now onto to what my predictions are this week. Mets will go 5-2 and win the division by 3-4 games. Phils face two tough pitchers this week in Hudson and Smoltz so they will most likely lose that series. Another prediction is that David Wright will win the MVP and when that happens, I will be partying with my money i won ( I mean i dont gamble, GAMBLING IS BAD) Remember that. To all the young readers who come here, I am sorry for that. But i hope he wins the MVP this season. He deserves it for everything he does on and off the field. To see what he does off the field. Please go to http://www.davidwrightfoundation.com . You can also buy tickets to the upcoming gala which will be held in November this year. I hopefully will be attending if i dont have anything going on.

DOES THAT LOOK LIKE MVP NUMBERS TO YOU?
DAVID ES EN FUEGGOOOOOO
David Wright like i said before will win the batting title this year. He will not even record an out at bat for the rest of the season and almost finish with a 550 batting average. In all seriousness, He is on fire now, As getting a hit in the first three at bats in todays game just proves that he was tired out from all of the females marriage requests in April and since then has 26 home runs. He is up to 321 on the season and will look to add to that vs this miserable Reds pitching staff other than todays starter, Aaron Harang. Not to be outshadowed by Pedros first start of the season, Mr Wright has been mashing the ball to all fields (Yesterday-Centerfield bomb, Today- Right field Yankee Stadium barely making it over the wall) and his base hits are all finding holes and the mets are looking to push their lead wider in the NL East to 5 games today as they are now battling the Reds and their lackluster team.
After this weeks horrid start to the weekend, I didnt want to post as i had my head halfway in the tub filled with water due to enough horrible games to endure especially with going to Pennsylvania and enduring more Phils fans than ever abusing me and asking me if i can purchase a broom to sweep myself along with that junk David Wright Jersey i was wearing. I laughed and shrugged it off asking them where they will be in the end of September with that horrible pitching staff and they said first. I went back before i headed back to NY and they were closed for the rest of the week after the Marlins slapped them around in FLA. So i left a note. Dear Owners of the food mart, I really like to thank you for making fun of me. Now i can bask in the glory and regain that 4 game lead that we had and it will be pushed back to 6 by weeks end. I hope you can think of me while fishing in October. I will be partying all winter long and i will come back with my 3 foot David Wright Bobblehead and maybe we can share stories of what it will be like to win a world series this season. Go Philles and go Kyle Durbin (Your # 1 starter).
Best Wishes,
Wrightoholics Nation.
Now back to todays game and the lack of posting. I was waiting for the mets to win a game vs the Phils to post but i needed to see if the Mets would sweep the Bravos before finally posting again. The Mets swept the Bravos out of their own stadium and partied all the way back to Cincinati and will look to continue that mashing on the hapless reds. The way the Mets beat the Braves made me happy and made me smile for the first time in 5 days. As i was sleeping, I had a dream that David Wright will win the MVP this season and for those of you who have voted on the left side of the website, Thanks for voting MVP this season as i have been all season long and i think he will win it. Now lets get back to….
DAVID WRIGHT FOR MVP!
I really do think that he should get more consideration for MVP. He is a leader on this team and after a slow April start, He is off to monster numbers and i can only wish he gets to 110 RBI’S. He will win the MVP. He is a Perenial MVP in the making for baseball and look at him off the field. He is a role model and his foundation raises numerous amounts of money for the society. In a world in which you see so much garbage going on with athletes, Its nice to see David come out and do what he does on a weekly basis. I just pray the Mets can sign him to a 300 year contract so i can die in peace.
Pedros start today was great in my mind. Giving up 2 earned in 5 innings after a year off is a major step for Pedro and a major step for the Mets in having another good arm step out every 5th or 6th day is great. I just hope he can stay healthy and gradually take baby steps to get back to a shred of the old Pedro.
